I have talked about this verse before, but it is one of my favorite:
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 1 Peter 2:9
We [...]

Justice/Righteousness vs Pursuit of Personal Need
Ever been really hungry? Ever really been famished and needed something to eat? If we take this passage back to when Jesus talked about it we would see a dry country where food couldn’t be purchased at the local Wal-Mart. We can understand how many would be [...]

When I find myself in life’s most uncertain moments, those times where you don’t know which door to go to, I turn to passage about the disciples in the midst of a storm. I always think to myself why are they scared? What would cause them to fear, they had Jesus on their side, he [...]

The popular hymn I Surrender All is on my favorite songs. It is a song that should be the foundation for our relationship with Christ.
All to Jesus, I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
I surrender all, I surrender all,
All to Thee, my blessèd [...]

Somebody pointed me to a show on a channel I would usually prefer not to watch that had an interesting concept. It was following 3 people in their late teens and early twenties who were making the decision to be celibate (I believe they all were making secondary commitments after failed relationships). Sounds noble, but [...]

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. [...]

Every time I find myself holding a grudge I try really hard to remember what God has done for me; that’s who I want to be like!
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32
Isn’t this a perfect model to live by? [...]

Mourning vs Excessive Happiness (Matthew 5:4)
The use of the word morn in Matthew 5:4 is an interesting approach as is the thought that excessive, over exuberant happiness is a bad thing. There are two thoughts we can take from this
1. If you are mourning, take comfort in knowing God will soothe your sorrows
Mourning [...]

Patience is a little word we would rather stay away from. We want it, but we fear if we ask for it then we are going to have to “suffer” through some different situations just grow in that area. We treat it very seriously, but do our best to avoid asking for [...]

I have done it before and you know you have. God I would love to do this for you, but I am too weak or I am not smart enough or there are better people. There is a quote that fits this perfect God didn’t call the qualified; He qualified the called. This is found [...]
